Hi,
Sorry for writing in English, but my Dutch is very limited in writing...
I'm trying to find the difference on the two MFD2's, CD and DVD. Is it only that the DVD has a split-screen and can't play audio CD's? Is it difficult to connect a third party bluetooth handsfree kit and iPod to the MFD2? Any brands which are better than others? Saw some threads on this, but as my Dutch isn't good, I didn't understand so much...
I will get a new Golf 2.0 TDI with the small computer (half-size), is it possible to replace the instruments to have the full size computer so I can have the navi arrows in the instruments also? Also because I like the bigger one better, but you had to order the car with Webasto heater (!) or navi to get it... Which meant waiting for the car 7 months...
I like the original ones design better than the Pioneer AVIC-D3 or AVIC-HD3BT, but maybe it is still better to go for a Pioneer solution? If so, where do I buy it cheap in NL or Germany?
Any recommendations appreciated!
-Anders

Hello and welcome to the forum.
No problem in replying in English for us here.
The MFD2 CD and the DVD unit are completely different systems. The CD unit can play Audio CD's but only when not navigating. The DVD-unit A-version cannot play audio CD's and must be upgraded to B or C version. But also with the limitation of not navigating while listening.
The DVD unit is a complete disaster if not useless compared to any other 2007 system. Anyone with experience with this unit will confirm this. It is extremely slow and sluggish. The screen resolution is far less than can be expected and additonal functions are not available. Radio and audio functions however are good but only if the DSP system is not fitted. Hooking up iPod interface and TP BT kits is relatively easy.
If you still consider buying one I would advise you not to. Although prices have dropped considerably since the introduction of the new unit in week 22. It was replaced by the new RNS510 which has all the features that you require. SD card and CD/DVD MP3/Video playback. iPod connection HDD based navigation. Plenty of HHD space for Video and MP3 etc.
For any VW goes that when you want the large board computer in the instrumentpanel, you will have to completely exchange the instrument unit, the cmotor management unit and some wiring. Of course it could be done but at a very high prize which would far outweigh the additional cost for ordering it at delivery.
The new RNS510 units have allready appeared at Ebay auctions and Dutch sites for around € 1350 which is very good compared to factory prices of €2195 in Germany and €3400 in Holland.
Since I expect you to be german I would further suggest to put the same questions in one of the available German forums i.e www.navi-forum.net
The existing RCD300 unit could possibly be sold at Ebay fetching €150 at the most.

Thanks for very useful information Gerritje!
Actually, I'm from Norway, but have lived some time in the Netherlands, and will go to Amsterdam later this summer to sell my MC, and will go via Germany, so I can hopefully pick up a unit on my way somewhere.
I have searched for the details on the RNS510, but I couldn't find if it has a built in Bluetooth or if it requires a external connection for a phone. Do you have a link with more technical details for it?
Which sites would you recommend to search in Germany or the Netherlands?
Dank U wel!
