Connecting PC5200 to Kenwood
Hello all,
got the information in the German Forum from one of your members that a user has found a possibility to connect a PC5200 Navigation unit to a Kenwood head-unit.
Who can give me some information ?
Sorry about my bad Dutch therefore in English
Regards
Dieter

English is OK, but when you really want to communicate with us, Dutch certainly is the preferred language

Hello Dieter,
As mentioned by JW it is easy to connect a PC5200 to a Kenwood headunit, I have it installed in both my cars, one with a double din headunit, the DDX-7029 and in my other car in combination with a KVT-729DVD foulding monitor.
JW has send me a link to the pocketnavigationforum and I have read that you are thinking about a double din headunit. The PC5200 works only with the DDX-7029 or models before, not with the new DDX8022BT, I have tried that but is doesn't work anymore and Kenwood will do nothing about is.
If you are interested I can get hold of a new "old" DDX7029 and the necessary interface CAW-1000rv for you. For bluetooth you need optional the BT200 with the latest firmware.
An alternative is selling your PC5200 and to buy a Kenwood DNX8220BT, that one has everything in one, Navigation of Garmin and Bluetooth from Parrot onboard. Owwwww 2 people are going to be angry to me now I have said this...a Garmin instead of a VDO.....

Indeed, how dare you to suggest this.......Gentry schreef: ....An alternative is selling your PC5200 and to buy a Kenwood DNX8220BT, that one has everything in one, Navigation of Garmin and Bluetooth from Parrot onboard. Gentry
As you said it yourselves on many occasions, the combination of a Kenwood Headunit with a PC 5200 is the best of 2 worlds, so we stick to that
And although it was said that the Garmin, despite that it has NO pulse entry is doing the navigation as good as others, I definitely would prefer a unit which has all the possible inputs available

JW

Hello Gentry,
indeed I'm interested....please give me an idea about the price.
Is there a possibility to connect a 1-DIN (sliding monitor) unit as well ? Size Depends on the type of my new company car...
Best regards

Yes, I have both.
The new DDX7029 I can get voor about € 900 new, perhaps you can also buy it in Germany? It's a model which was sold till april, than came the new DDX8022BT which doesn't work anymore with de PC5200.
Please let us now what you will decide?

No that isn't exact the same, with this interface you get an extra infrared eye and the navigation comes in through Video 1 instead of through Nav, with the Kenwood CAW-1000rv the VDO infrared signal goes through the Kenwood and you can select Nav through the nav button on the front.
Send Navco an email, they can order it for you.

Thanks Gentry.
Another question: do you have any experience regarding that Navco interface ? Could there be a possibility to connect other non-Kenwood devices in good quality ?

Got a response from Navco:
- CAW-1000RV seems not available
- they suggest using the CA 51M interface between the PC 5200 computer, and any Display
- or as "A very good alternative the NCI 5200 interface" at € 198,00
I'm not sure what to do
What I have today is a PC5200 with MM5600 Display in combination with a radio Blaupunkt LasVegas DVD35. For my mobile phone I have a FWD Audio COM. Music comes through my Mobile - it's a HTC Athena.
This is a total of 4 screens in the car.....
Therefore I'm thinking about a Multi-purpose head unit with integrated Bluetooth module, SD-card reader and an excellent radio.
Seems to me, that either Kenwood or VDO VRMsystem - but also some Zenec units fulfill my requirements.
With Kenwood and Zenec I'm not sure whether the interface will provide a good navigation dieplay...
The VDO head-units - I didn't hear much (good) about....
Or - keeping my current units and installing a Blaupunkt Bluetooth unit.
Who can give me an idea ???

Dieter, Navco can order the CAW-1000rv at Kenwood NL, it's on stock as far as I know.
Again, ones you know what vehicle you decide to buy I can get your plans complete if you want me to.

Hello Gentry,
thanks again for your offer....
I'm really still in a process of thinking and waiting for the decision of my new company which car I get...
But the first step is made: I'll buy out my old (2year old) equipment (see my last posting) at a good price from my old company....
And now I don't know what to do...I'd like to know whether there are some significant advantages when replacing the headunit by a Kenwood or even VDO....
Dieter

Hello Gentry,
new car will be a Chrysler Grand Voyager. For the beginning, I'll keep my current equipment as is Blaupunkt LasVegas in combination with MM5600 and PC5200.
I can integrate both units into the Cockpit (there a two 1-DIN but no 2-DIN bins ) - and sound quality of BP Las Vegas isn't too bad - and display quality of MM5600 is outstanding (in my eyes ).
Maybe towards the end of the year (depending on funds to be freed up from my financial administration at home ) I'll re-decide.
Maybe there will be a closing-down sale at VDO - then I may go for an VRM unit....
or even for a Kenwood or something like that. But I'll visit Navco before - they are quite close to my company - and have a look at the interfaces they do offer.
Or I'll have visit at Gentry to see the best of two worlds working....
Thanks - Dieter
