Hello, sorry for my english but i'm italian.
I found this radio/cd/gps but it with january,2000 maps.
I asked to vdo and the software upgrade is for 70€.
Becouse the electronical system is old the update will make slow the system.
There is a way to update at home the software so if it will become too slow a don't throw money.

The Carin 440 is an old system indeed, and thus its computer is rather slowish.
However, when you run the Maps bought directly at Navteq http://tinyurl.com/3dwxrg , the system will be OK, as there are no "superfluous" items on these maps.

What you mean with "Software upgrade at €70" is unclear to me. Which version do you presently run in your system? This can be seen in the Menu, so what HW and SW version do you see there?

First thanks for your help.
I take it "for free" so I put it on my marea.
When I write to vdo siemens they answer me that if I wold to use new map I have to update gps unit software. Update,verify unit and resend to me the unit cost 70€.
I have a map cd date by 18january 2000.
To night i search for HW and SW version and report it on this thread.
But I warn for the map cd life (it has 8 years) and I want to make a backup but i try whit alcohol 120% (the original cd appear to be a mixed cd) and the cd doesn't work....

OK, first check which HW and SW versions you have. Then we will further discuss.

How to make copies of CD's, we don't wish to discuss here. See our Rules, article Ie. I know, your knowledge of Dutch will be "limited", but that's a fact.

OK. That means that you have the last-before SW, the latest possible is the 2.9. But the 2.9 does not speed-up your computer, so there is no reason to change it.
When you want to use a newer map than the 2000 version you now have, buy it from Navteq, see the link I gave earlier.

I don't know the details. But I know that the 2.8 is a good and stable SW version, which also supports TMC.

Ok, I abuse of your patience.
Now I can't turn on radio without key turned on, not engine but only light.
Can I make that radio can be turned on on parking?
How you know such detail of carin sistem?

Apparently the connections on A4 and A7 are not made correctly. Are you sure that Battery-plus is on A4 and the Contactplus is on A7 of the ISO-A?
I have the MR4000 in my car, which is the same radio, and simply can switch on the radio when the key is turned off

But what are battery and contact plus?
They are wire from the radio back or from the car?If they are, I find them description on the istruction paper in the gps and radio box?
A4 and A7 are iso-package pins?is right?

Have a look at page 3, picture 2 of downloads.php?view=detail&id=43 and you will understand what I mean. The contact-plus red wire shal be on A7, the battery-plus wire shall be on A4.

When you simply have plugged in the ISO-A from your car into the RC 959, most likely these 2 wires are interchanged. Simply check it with a voltmeter or a lamp and you know how it is.

No, you cannot update the POI's in this system seperately, only those which are on the CD can be used. And of course, the newer CD will have more up-to-date POI's

Hi, my father taked the car to the people that install it. My father say me that that people take the suorce power wire and put it with another from the battery, not under key lock such it was.
Now radio starts also whitout car key turned and gps start when car are on.
But when I unplug key the radio doesn't stop. It was becouse the installer didn't check if A4 and A/ are twisted or is a characteristic of radio?

I have a little manual,20 pages but there isn't much about radio set up.There is on line another manual?

On internet i found system code for gps section for enter in the menu :6330
For the radio I can't find system code.Someone has it?

Back from "skiing", I read that the system now works, however NOT as it should.
The "key" really is that the installer has to do its work properly, according to the Philips documentation. And thus that the connections to A4 and A7 shall be made properly.

Indeed, the code for access to the computer is 6330, but be carefull there and don't change the settings. Many have made mistakes there and subsequently had to send their computer to the VDO Service
There is no such code for the Radio part of your system.

A manual is available for the MR 4000, which is almost identical to your Carin 959. See downloads.php?view=detail&id=41

I have to change the 2 wire in the next week end.
For the manual, have you got a link to an english (or better in italian,but I don't think that there is) manual?

What map version do you use?
